Depp has been arrested several times, with his first arrest in Vancouver B.C. for a late-night altercation in a hotel lobby. He was accused of allowing the sale of illegal drugs in his club The Viper Room after actor River Phoenix (Joaquin Phoenix's older brother) died of a speedball overdose in front of the club in 1993, despite the fact that the owners were not held responsible for the death.

Johnny has been nominated for the first ever British National Movie Awards for “best male perfomance” in POTC3 - At World’s End. The other nominees are: Orlando Bloom (POTC3 - AWE, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), Rupert Grint (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), Daniel Craig (Casino Royale).
